About me

Wilder-Family-Session-43

I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend. I have brain cancer. I am trying every day to find the balance between fighting and living – not making the cancer the centerpiece of our lives, but also savoring each moment I have left, whether it’s 1, 2, 5 or 25 years.

New to the blog? Start here…at the beginning: Brain Surprise

(My photo credits go to Jamie and Jason at Rose Street Studio in Lake Tahoe.  They made me look beautiful and captured my family as a whole – before hair loss – after diagnosis.  Much love to them both.  They do good work and are kind and generous souls)

  1. Like I said, you find things when you start looking hard enough. But really, other than things I’m overanalyzing as ‘signs’ this is all: the week prior to the seizure, I was really tired and really cranky. That’s it.

  2. what a wonderful sense of things you express, i admire your courage and would aspire to the same were i in your shoes. best wishes for your journey

  3. sounds like you have the same spirit as when our paths crossed many years ago. i have two kids the same age as yours. they bring so much daily joy but also a glimpse of the uncertainty of tomorrow. i pray for your strength and your family.

  4. It was both a shock and with deep sorrow when I heard of your situation. Our paths crossed over time through work but I have always considered you a good, kind and sincere soul. Please know that I miss speaking with you and pray only good thoughts for your full recovery as you are one of the strongest people I have had the pleasure of meeting in my life.

  5. I just got reading through a few of your posts and I had a quick question about your blog. I am involved in the cancer community and was hoping you could email me back when you get the chance. Thanks! – emilywalsh688(at)gmail.com.

  6. Dear Karyn,
Do not ever give up. I will pray for you. I heard about the walk and wanted to email you right away as my husband was also diagnosed the beginning of this year with glioblastoma. I am a believer in prayer & God.

  7. My mom and your mom are cousins. I love your blog and pray for you daily. Please let your mom know Mary Fischer will be moving to Thousand Oaks this December.

  8. Hi

I am a teacher from Our Lady of Lourdes high school in Guelph Canada.

Below is a link to a music video we put together to raise awareness for brain cancer.  It was shot at the ten4ten fund raiser where we raised $300,000!

Looking to share this video with as many people as possible to demonstrates what community can do.

Here is the tweet we put out. Please go to my page and retweet my pinned tweet. It would mean so much to me.
